Dan Dawson was quizzed about Gary Anderson by Polly James for Sky Sports in particular about his words surrounding Luke Humphries being snubbed when it came to being a talking point.
This is despite him being World Number One and World Champion. But Dawson takes the view that obviously with Luke Littler being the poster boy as a result that it is for a reason and not just snubbing Humphries out of turn.
"For a start, I like when Gary (Anderson) gets a bee in his bonnet about something. Because usually it means he knuckles down and plays amazing darts. He's been certainly been doing that all year on the ProTour, his beef seemed to be that people aren't giving Luke Humphries enough respect. It might be because Luke Littler was favourite for this title," said Dawson on Sky Sports.
"Luke Littler has won more titles than anybody this year. That's why. The young lad is an absolute sensation. But if he's looking for people who've been saying that Luke Humphries is the best player in the world which Gary evidently thinks he is, there's loads of them."
"He's the champion, he's the World Number One. Everybody knows. He's been winning all of the big ranking titles all year now. So if Gary's looking for people to put respect on his name, I would happily oblige. But I think they're already doing it."
He was also asked about retirement which he hit back at and Dawson said that a few years ago, it was a valid question maybe not now.
"If you're going to ask the question is Gary going to knock it on the head a couple of years ago? I think it's a fair question. By his own admission, he said I didn't want to be playing, I didn't want to be travelling. He dropped out of the top 20. Not only has he been bothered, he's been playing the best darts out of anybody over the last 18 months. A good Gary Anderson is amazing for the game."
"I don't think anybody is saying when is he going to quit now as he looks like he could go on and on. He's winning things and he's a danger here this week."
