Luke Humphries bounced back from losing the UK Open final by winning his first
Premier League Darts night in superb fashion, taking week six in Brighton with a 6-3 win over
Michael Smith. World No. 1 Humphries never averaged below a ton in his three matches on the night.
The pair would have come into this final with differing feelings about their game. 'Cool Hand' had been a man on a mission on the south coast, averaging 105 in his quarter-final tie against Gerwyn Price, before achieving his highest average in a televised match with 113 in defeat of Rob Cross in the semis. Smith battled to victories over Peter Wright (6-5) and Luke Littler (6-3) en route to the final.
The world champion won his first five legs in the final in darts of 14, 15, 11, 14 and 14 - firing in five 180s and playing some of the best darts we've seen from the Englishman over the span of an evening session. Smith still played his part in the tie, chucking in five maximums of his own and averaging over 100.
In the blink of an eye though Smith had cut the gap to 5-3 with consecutive legs in 27 darts. Humphries managed to keep his composure, checking out 74 to fend off any hopes of a comeback from 'Bully Boy'. He is now second place in the league table.
