Luke Littler became world champion for the first time almost a week ago by defeating Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final. The 17-year-old Englishman seems on track to have already earned more at the PDC World Darts Championship within a few years than darts icon Phil Taylor earned in his entire career.

Littler received a cheque for a whopping 500,000 pounds for winning the 2025 World Darts Championship. Littler also earned 200,000 pounds last year as a losing World finalist.

At this rate, he will have already earned more at the World Darts Championship at age 22 than Phil Taylor did in his entire career. The 16-time world champion earned just under 2.5 million at the World Darts Championship in his career. It should be noted, however, that there used to be much less money to be won at the World Championship. For example, Taylor received just 12,000 pounds for his first PDC world title in 1995; at his last one in 2013, that was raised to 200,000 pounds.

Still, Taylor is not top of the list when it comes to money won at the PDC World Darts Championship. That place is reserved for Michael van Gerwen. The 35-year-old Dutchman, who has already become a three-time world champion, already earned more than 2.5 million pounds at the World Darts Championship.

At his first world title in 2014, Van Gerwen earned £250,000, then with his third in 2019, it was £350,000.
