For 11 years, Michael van Gerwen has been in the history books as the youngest winner of the PDC World Darts Championship. The Dutchman managed to win his first world title in 2014 at the age of 24 by defeating Peter Wright in the final.
Whether Van Gerwen keeps that record for at least another year, he will have his own say Friday night. 'Mighty Mike' will then take on teenage sensation Luke Littler in the final of the 2025 World Darts Championship.
The 17-year-old Englishman became the youngest finalist ever at the World Darts Championship last year at the age of 16 and now gets another chance to also become the youngest winner. Should Littler not succeed, he will have six more chances to knock Van Gerwen off the throne after this tournament.
Van Gerwen took over the record in 2014 from Adrian Lewis, who was 25 when he became world champion in 2011. The third youngest PDC world champion is Rob Cross, who had reached the age of 27 in 2018. Luke Humphries was 28 when he managed to win from Littler in the 2024 World Championship final. The top five is completed by Michael Smith. 'Bullyboy' was 34 when he won from Van Gerwen in the 2023 final.
