Luke Littler continues to produce the ridiculous and the sublime at the Players Championship Finals and is through to tonight's evening session in Minehead after seeing off European Champion Ritchie Edhouse.
Littler closed out a 6-2 win over 'Madhouse' with six 180's and a 105.3 average as he missed double 12 for a nine-dart finish again. He also produced a spectacular 25, Bull, Bull outshot to which Edhouse just stood there and applauded.
After winning the Grand Slam of Darts and getting a monkey off his back so to speak in terms of winning a maiden major ranking title, he has flourished and continues to do so. While Edhouse himself averaged 105 and could hardly get near the teenage sensation.
Wattimena swatted aside Josh Rock as he continued his epic form while Noppert beat Stephen Burton 6-4.
Wattimena kicked off the match with an 82 finish in 14 darts. The second leg was also a 14-darter via a 56-finish. The finalist of the last European Championships seemed unstoppable as the third leg was also a winner for the Dutchman. A 76 finish gave ‘The Machine Gun’ a 3-0 lead and seemed to be on his way to a comfortable win.
This proved to be the case as in the fourth leg, Wattimena even had enough with 18 arrows to extend his lead. And in leg 5 he produced a superb 121 finish to reach match point on a 12-darter.
Rock got another dart at the bull in leg 6 to take one more leg, but again he was denied. Wattimena then threw a 120-finish for 6-0 and a whitewash. The Dutchman was deadly on his doubles as he finished the match with a finishing percentage of 85.7.
Noppert started his match against Burton excellently with two 180's and winning the first leg in 11 darts. He also easily retained the second leg within five innings to take an early 2-0 lead.
The former UK Open winner was also completely unopposed in the third leg. However, ‘The Freeze’ missed 5 darts on the double to lead 3-0, Burton took advantage by throwing out 120 to come back to 2-1. In leg 4, the Englishman hit another 100+ finish. Bertie' surprisingly levelled the score with 137.
Both men then missed several doubles to take the lead, but in the end it was Burton again who won the leg with double 2 to take the lead for the first time. Both men then held their own legs until the score of 4-4.
In leg 9, Noppert scored an important break with an 80 to regain the lead and then won the 10th leg to qualify for the next round.
