Luke Littler has won a title every month during his opening season on the tour in a remarkable feat for the 17-year-old. But this likely comes to an end during August.
Littler likely has one more chance to win a title before the end of the month and technically he would win it during September. He has decided to skip the ProTour tournaments which will begin tomorrow in Milton Keynes despite initially entering.
As a result, his withdrawal will likely be confirmed on Wednesday and he will have a week off of sorts. He said as much during his stint Down Under at the World Series. He quipped back to Online Darts when asked about it: "You know I’m skipping them."
Many will likely follow a similar route with the calendar very much getting very busy from this point onwards with European Tour tournaments most weekends as well as major tournaments including the World Series Finals, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam among others all heading towards the World Championship.
So for a player like Littler who will be at all of them, it is an opportunity for a few days off to recoup. Michael van Gerwen for instance will play though albeit he has been off anyway for some time having just had surgery so it is no real surprise that he has decided to play.
Littler for instance has struggled with jet lag in Australia and New Zealand as he was crushed by Gerwyn Price in Woolangong and then lost to Luke Humphries in Hamilton at the New Zealand Darts Masters. But this in itself means that Littler won't win a title in August ending his record.
"I saw that stat going into the ProTour last month and I checked it was the last day so win this one and then I can go home," he said this past weekend.
"I did win it and I am aware that I’ve picked up a title every month.
"I’d like to pick up another major this year, no matter what it is."
