Luke Littler has explained why he mimicked Chelsea legend Didier Drogba during his match against compatriot Nathan Aspinall at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship in London on Wednesday night.

Littler managed to win 5-2 over Aspinall on New Year's Day, making it to the last four of the World Darts Championship. It was a strong performance by 'The Nuke', who recorded an average of 101.54 and managed to throw no fewer than fifteen 180 scores. By reaching the semifinals, Littler has already secured £100,000 in prize money.

After winning one of the sets against Aspinall, Littler allowed himself a special celebration and as fans quickly picked up on, it was inspired by Chelsea legend Didier Drogba. The Ivorian scored 164 goals in nine years at Chelsea, where he became a club legend by winning four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three Carabao Cups and the Champions League. He became known for his trademark celebration, with the striker quickly extending his hands as he sprinted to the corner flag.

Littler is a Manchester United fan and was just five years old when Drogba helped Chelsea win the Champions League back in 2012. Littler is known as a gaming fanatic though, and was urged by a friend to do Drogba's celebration. “My mate has been pestering me for months to do it and he was in the crowd tonight and when I was walking off I looked at him and he was doing the celebration so I did it. It’s from FIFA,” Littler explained.

The 17-year-old is back in action at the Ally Pally tonight. Littler faces off against Stephen Bunting in the semi-finals, with either Chris Dobey or Michael van Gerwen awaiting in the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship final.
