Martin Lukeman survived late pressure from debutant Nabuhiro Yamamoto but still prevailed in a straight sets win at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship in his Alexandra Palace debut.
Lukeman thought it would be the same as the stages he has played on this season but admits he was shocked and it definitely wasn't the case with Martin Schindler next.
"I'm over the moon, it's everyone's dream to play here. Done the job, didn't play well. I'll kick in for Schindler next," said Lukeman post match.
"I said in a few interviews recently it's going to be the same stage, same sponsors. I thought it would be the same as the Matchplay but it's a completely different ball game. It took me two or three legs to get used to that.
"The Japanese fella was a bit of a slow player but I've got to learn to adjust. I won, Schindler next let's have it," continued a bullish Lukeman.
"I can't wait to play him in England, I've played him so many times in Germany. I have the fans behind me this time, let's get it on."
