First seed falls at PDC World Darts Championship as superb Soutar produces showstopping 160 checkout to dump out Gurney

Alan Soutar will return to work from tomorrow and over Christmas but will go there knowing he is into the third round of the PDC World Darts Championship after dumping out Daryl Gurney, the first seed to fall at this year's tournament.

Soutar produced a blockbuster conclusion to produce when it mattered most. At 2-0 up and looking like he was being taken to another set, he hit a 160 checkout like he has done in previous matches and he notches up another superb win. He could face Danny Noppert in the latter stages.

Soutar missed chances from 2-1 up to seal the set and again at 71 on double 20 and gave Gurney a shot at 120 for the set himself but he couldn’t find a treble and the Scot sealed it.

Soutar pounced on two missed darts for a break from Gurney and he hit a 110 checkout on double 18 to make it 1-1 in the second set.

Soutar again looked to pounce but couldn’t pin 50 and Gurney hit double eight for 2-1. A 110 checkout from the Scot saw him send it all the way with Gurney needing to hold throw for a set back. But Soutar hit double 10 for it.

Soutar missed 110 on double 18 for a hold and Gurney picked his pocket. Soutar broke back though with an 80 checkout on double 20. Gurney hit 58 on double 19 to break again and Soutar hit double six and was throwing for it. Gurney left double 20 for the set after a superb leg but Soutar paid heed to that with an incredible 160 checkout to reach the third round.
