Menzies cruised past Kevin Munch in a 6-1 victory. The Scot who could be finally joining the tour full time next year due to the Challenge Tour averaged 89 and hit 1 180 but it was his finishing that held the key.
He hit 46 percent en route to his win compared to only 16 percent from Munch and will now face Michael Smith in round two.
Rusty-Jake Rodriguez produced the goods on home soil to defeat Ted Evetts in a 6-3 win. Rodriguez like Menzies excelled on the doubles hitting 46 percent compared to 30 from Evetts.
'Super Ted' has been playing so well lately so it is somewhat of a shock win. He showed some class with 4 180's but couldn't see off the home favourite.
Finally Adam Gawlas himself produced a shock on his European Tour debut. The 17 year old has been highly touted by certain parts of the darting community and he showed why.
He averaged 99.2 to defeat Ross Smith 6-5 who himself averaged 98. The Deal ace will be kicking himself having missed two match darts; Gawlas though will have a massively tough test next though as he faces home favourite Mensur Suljovic.
