Wattimena then missed six chances for 3-4, however, before Van Gerwen took the lead to 5-2 with a 58 check-out. The 34-year-old former World Champion decided the match with a 13-darter.
Martin Schindler will be Van Gerwen's opponent in the last four at the German Darts Grand Prix. The German won 6-4 over Nathan Aspinall in front of his own crowd.
