Simon Whitlock lost his PDC Tour Card at the end of the 2024 season. The 55-year-old Australian did make an attempt to recapture it at Q-School in January, but was ultimately unsuccessful.

Recently, Whitlock, along with his son Mason, competed on the MODUS Super Series. Simon, unlike Mason, made it to finals night there. "The MODUS Super Series was fantastic. Making the finals night was really good and yeah, to finish number one in the first event was great," the Aussie reflects in conversation with TalkSport. "I met a lot of nice people tonight... Playing with some old faces, some absolute champions of the world, it's really brilliant."

As mentioned, his son Mason was also there, with Whitlock senior having a big hope for his son's darting future. "Yeah absolutely," Whitlock enthusiastically answers when asked if his son can be Australia's future. "But he needs to work on his darts a lot more. I mean one leg doesn't make you amazing, but he has got the game to scare people and he needs to get consistent and a lot better."

In his father though, Mason Whitlock has a great mentor to learn from. "We normally practice a couple of nights a week, maybe 2 to 3 hours a night, and the rest we're playing like local competitions," explains 'the Wizard'.

Although he is no longer on the PDC Pro Tour, Whitlock's lengthy career within the PDC puts him well placed to analyse the stars of today. "You've obviously got the two Lukes (Littler and Humphries), maybe Damon Heta, he's got the game to compete with anyone," theorises Whitlock. "Gerwyn Price if he wants to put it together can do it and especially Michael van Gerwen. Van Gerwen is really getting his game back together, he's playing phenomenally well. I've seen Michael for a decade or so and he's just starting to get back to where he was and he looks more confident now."

By the way, Whitlock was active this week at the World Seniors Darts Championship, a tournament for players aged 45 and older. That World Championship did not go very successfully for "The Wizard," who immediately lost 3-1 to Paul Hogan in his opening match.
