Michael van Gerwen sixth player in history of Premier League Darts to lose by 110+ average

An average of 110.94 proved insufficient for Michael van Gerwen to win over Luke Littler on Thursday night. The 17-year-old teenage sensation recorded a moyenne of 114 himself and won 6-2.

It is the sixth time in Premier League Darts history that a player has lost despite an average of 110+, Darts Oracle writes. The remarkable thing is that Van Gerwen has been involved in five cases in some way.

It was the second time for Van Gerwen himself to go down with a 110+ average in Premier League Darts. That also happened to him in 2023 against Gerwyn Price.

Three times Van Gerwen won precisely from a player who threw 110+ average. James Wade (110.82 in 2017), Gary Anderson (110.79 in 2018) and and another James Wade (110.28 in 2021) lost to Van Gerwen.

However, the highest ever losing average is in the name of Phil Taylor. During the 2015 edition, 'The Power' recorded an average of 115.80 against Raymond van Barneveld, but still lost 7-4 to his Dutch rival.

Players who lost their match at 110+ average in Premier League Darts

115.80 Phil Taylor (4-7 Raymond van Barneveld) - 2015

110.82 James Wade (5-7 Michael van Gerwen) - 2017

110.79 Gary Anderson (3-7 Michael van Gerwen) - 2018

110.28 James Wade (3-8 Michael van Gerwen) - 2021

110.75 Michael van Gerwen (5-6 Gerwyn Price) - 2023

110.94 Michael van Gerwen (2-6 Luke Littler) - 2024
