Michael van Gerwen made it to the weekly final for the first time in this
Premier League Darts with a 6-5 victory over Michael Smith. In the final, 'Mighty Mike' will take on
Luke Littler.
Last week in Cardiff, Van Gerwen lost 6-5 to Smith in his first match after the Dutchman was broken in the last leg by 'Bullyboy'. Thursday night in Berlin, however, the roles were reversed.
Van Gerwen managed to take a 4-1 lead thanks to two 13-darters, but saw Smith come back with lightning speed. The Englishman came back to 4-4 with an 11-darter and then led 5-4 with an 11-darter. Van Gerwen then forced a deciding leg with an 80 finish. In the last leg Van Gerwen got off to an excellent start with two 180s and then 'Mighty Mike' secured victory with an 11-darter.
Littler then recorded a hard-fought 6-5 victory over world champion Luke Humphries. The two World Championship finalists met for the third time since the World Championship finals, but once again "The Nuke" pulled ahead.
Humphries managed to lead 4-2 thanks to two 12-darters, but was broken back in the eighth leg by the 17-year-old Englishman. Littler then took a 5-4 lead with a 76 check-out, before Humphries then made it 5-5 via tops. The deciding leg was then won by Littler via a 13-darter.
