Michael van Gerwen has laid down a marker at the
PDC World Darts Championship, destroying
Keane Barry 3-0 and dropping just two legs in a comprehensive victory.
In a tight first set, Barry more than kept up with van Gerwen in the scoring department, outscoring the Dutchman if anything. Sadly for the Irishman however, his doubling was consistently letting him down and against a player of van Gerwen's calibre that's fatal. 'Mighty Mike' taking the first set 3-1.
Set 2 saw Barry continue to fire in the big scores but with his doubling percentage down in the doldrums at 13%, van Gerwen continued to punish, most notably with a stunning 167 finish en route to another set victory.
Full of confidence and full of quality, van Gerwen quickly moved two legs clear in set 3 as his average touched the 100 mark. Although he missed his first dart for the match, Barry couldn't make him pay and the Dutchman returned to complete a relatively comfortable win.
