Scott Mitchell endured a disappointing time at the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship last month as he was swept by Chris Landman 3-0 without hardly winning a leg.
Mitchell spoke to Tungsten Tales a month on and summed it up as one of the worst defeats in his career up there with some humbling defeats at the Lakeside.
"Just huge disappointment really. I think if you look at the averages I've been doing over the 30 Pro Tours. I can't put my finger where it went wrong, I just think it was one of those days. I don't do it often and when I do it, I do it properly.
"You can over analyse sometimes and stop yourself playing the next time. But I will tell you it really hurt, I couldn't face watching and I didn't watch any games after that for about four or five days. I couldn't bear to watch."
"It was one of the defeats that hurt me the most in the whole of my darting career I think. I lost at Lakeside a few times and I remember Martin Adams doing me in 21 or 22 minutes, three sets to nil. It hurt even more than that."
TalkSport stint
'Scotty Dog' was invited back to the Ally Pally for a stint on TalkSport after Christmas and after some apprehension, he fell in love with the venue again.
"I just did not like the place at all. So to go back for TalkSport and see somebody else enjoying it and somebody else doing it and going back for a different reason was very different."
"I really found the love of the place in that three days so I'm looking to get back there as quick as I can."
Next targets
The next steps for Mitchell are to keep his Tour Card and build on a successful opening foray as a PDC Tour Card holder.
"The targets for 2021 were to try and make the Players Championship Finals if I could and try and make Ally Pally which I did both. But I wanted to run the year an average sort of 90. As it happened, I averaged 93 and a bit for the whole 30 ProTours so I'm going to have to repeat that again and hold my card at the end of the year."
