Michael van Gerwen has qualified for the quarterfinals of the
World Series of Darts Finals with a convincing performance. Mighty Mike beat compatriot Danny Noppert 6-3 in the second round and now faces Luke Humphries.
Van Gerwen struggled with his form in recent months, but on Saturday he showed that he is back on track. The 35-year-old Dutchman clearly felt good in his skin in the AFAS Live and averaged over 106, Noppert also did far from bad with almost 100 average.
Also in the audience were his wife, little son Mike and little daughter Zo¨¨e. Afterwards, he even took his little daughter on stage to celebrate with the audience. "Really nice," said a beaming Van Gerwen to AD.nl. "I asked my wife yesterday if she wanted to ask the kids to come and watch. I just really like that. I don't play that often in Holland in front of such an audience. Whether this will become an annual darts outing? I hope so."

Humphries
In the quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon, Van Gerwen will take on reigning world champion Luke Humphries, who was just too strong for Damon Heta in the second round, 6-5. Humphries already won the World Darts Championship and the World Matchplay earlier this year, but Van Gerwen certainly believes in his chances. Moreover, he is still the only Dutchman in contention, so he will feel loudly supported by the Dutch fans. "Great match for everyone who has a ticket for Sunday afternoon. Luke is the guy it's all about. My statistics are poor against him, but I know what I'm capable of."
With his wife and children in the room again? "Well, I don't know if they'll be there tomorrow. It's also children's afternoon at Bourgondisch Den Bosch...," Van Gerwen laughs.
