Peter Wright has qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2024
World Series of Darts Finals. 'Snakebite' first won over Dave Chisnall on Saturday afternoon and then also defeated Jeff Smith in the evening. In the quarter-finals he will take on Daryl Gurney on Sunday afternoon.
So Wright had to play two matches on the same day. "Hard work for an old guy like me," he laughed afterwards in conversation with
Online Darts. "I think the bonus of playing the couple European Tour the past couple of weeks has helped me and prepared me for this tournament."
Wright had a particularly difficult first six months on the Pro Tour, but has recently showed signs of his old self by winning the German Darts Championship, where he beat Luke Littler in the final. "People were writing me off, saying I should go to the Seniors Tour and that I'm absolute rubbish," recalls the 54-year-old Scot. "I'm not finished with these lot. I can still upset the Luke Littler's, the Luke Humphries', the Michael Van Gerwen's, Michael Smith and when Nathan Aspinall when he comes back, I can still upset them if I want to on my day."
Peter Wright now meets Daryl Gurney
Wright will take on Daryl Gurney in the quarterfinals, a possible replay of the German Darts Championship final against Luke Littler could be in the final at the earliest. "When I played Luke the other week, when I beat him, I was just admiring how he just wants to destroy the world and and destroy every person that's on that stage against him. It's good for darts, but you know, he's got to learn to lose before he wins."
The winner of the match between Wright and Gurney will take on the winner of the duel between Rob Cross and Michael Smith in the semi-finals on Sunday night.
