Nathan Aspinall has gotten off to a strong start to the new season of Premier League Darts. Although his selection for the 2025 edition was initially questioned, 'The Asp' has already reached two weekly finals and is currently in third place in the league table, behind only Luke Littler and Luke Humphries. On Night Three, Aspinall lost in the final to Gerwyn Price, and last week Littler proved too strong in the fifth weekly final.
Currently, he is level on points with Michael van Gerwen prior to Night Six in Nottingham, and one point ahead of Gerwyn Price, who is fifth. Aspinall can boast a good final ranking in Premier League Darts on his previous participations. Twice "The Asp" made it to the playoffs, losing the final to Glen Durrant in 2020. Over the past two seasons, Aspinall finished a creditable fifth. This season, he is determined to reach the final night at the O2 Arena in London, where anything is possible.
"This is my fifth go at the Premier League, still not won it, been very close once. I just love playing in the Premier League, it brings the best out of me. Week in, week out, big venues, big crowds, big stages, all eyes on you, no hiding," Aspinall says in quotes collected by Sky Sports. "I've got to play everything this year as well because of what I'm defending, but I'm relishing the challenge and I think the more I play the better I get, the confidence will come back very, very quickly."
Aspinall knows exactly what he wants to achieve this season: a spot in the top four. "My target is always to make top four, then it's all on the night. Any of the top four that make it after 16 weeks can win it on that night, but the eight players that are in it this year are all fantastic," he explains. "You know, I think there's a couple playing better than the rest of us, but darts is all about the night and all eight of us can beat each other. We all know that, the crowd all know that, the fans all know that and I think that's what makes the Premier League so exciting."
In addition to his ambition to make the playoffs, Aspinall wants above all to enjoy every night of play in the prestigious competition. "A successful Premier League campaign for me? I'm not going to go what the rest of them say and probably say win it, which I'm guessing they've all said," he concludes. "For me it is going out every week, enjoying it and making the top four."
