Nathan Aspinall has quickly moved to try to reassure his fans following a minor shoulder injury. The Englishman withdrew from a Pro Tour event earlier this week but emphasised that it was purely a precautionary measure.
“I made the decision to pull out of the ProTour on Tuesday and give myself another day off," explained the two-time major winner. “It’s still pretty bad but I don’t think it is anything serious. I pulled it a bit on Monday — hence why I played on treble 19s in the final.”
Despite this physical setback, the world number eight is in excellent form. Just this past Monday in Rosmalen, he reached his first Players Championship final since August 2022, narrowly losing to Damon Heta.
Aspinall has delivered several impressive performances in recent weeks. He won the tenth night of the Premier League in his hometown of Manchester and shone again during night eleven in Rotterdam, where he defeated Gerwyn Price 6-3 and hit a 170 checkout.
He also made his mark on the European Tour. In Göttingen, he claimed his first-ever Euro Tour title by winning the European Darts Trophy. Shortly afterwards, he reached the final of the International Darts Open.
Those successes mean that "The Asp" is now already certain to participate in several major television tournaments later this year. “A whirlwind of a last two weeks. Getting over that line in Göttingen and winning my first Euro Tour title has transformed my season," he reflects on his current run of form. “I knew I would qualify for the World Grand Prix, possibly the Grand Slam, and definitely the European Championships. It has just given me a new lease of confidence.”
