New regulations for use of aggressive points on darts at PDC tournaments in effect

The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) disciplinary committee has released an update to the regulations surrounding PDC tournaments. The new rules are effective Jan. 4.

Last year it already became clear that the DRA wanted to ban the use of aggressive, grippy points. Simon Whitlock, among others, uses darts with such points because they stay in the board better. A disadvantage of those darts, however, was that it damaged the dartboard particularly badly.

The exact wording of the regulations surrounding these items is now known, although it is not immediately clear what will and will not be allowed. The regulations now state the following: ''If the tournament director believes that darts are unduly damaging the dartboard, he will prohibit the use of these darts in the event.''

If a player is in doubt whether their points are allowed, they are advised to contact the tournament director for clarification.
