As anticipated, Luke Littler will not feature in this weekend’s European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen. The reigning world champion and current world number two becomes the only player in the PDC’s top 20 rankings absent from this leg of the Euro Tour.
Littler’s withdrawal comes as little surprise. The 18-year-old, nicknamed 'The Nuke,' has had a rocky relationship with German darts crowds in recent weeks. During the Premier League night in Berlin, Littler expressed frustration over the reception he received from fans. That tension escalated further at the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich, where he was again subjected to boos.
Following a loss to Gian van Veen in Munich, Littler left the stage swiftly and later took to Instagram to make his feelings clear. He stated that the European Darts Championship in Dortmund this October would be the next and only tournament in Germany he plans to attend, at least for now.
In making that statement, Littler may have overlooked the World Cup of Darts, which is also set to take place in Germany this June. Regardless, he is standing by his decision to withdraw from this weekend’s tournament.
Daryl Gurney has also pulled out of the event. Their spots in the draw will be filled by Martin Lukeman and William O'Connor.
