Danny Noppert is through to the Third Round at the 2020/21
PDC World Darts Championship after battling past debutant, Cameron Carolissen.
Carolissen had to wait for his chance after Martijn Kleermaker tested positive for Coronavirus but went first on a night which also sees 'The African Warrior' Devon Petersen begin his campaign but it wasn't a true Alexandra Palace classic.
'The Javelin' took the opening set but lost 3-1 from there in a scrappy tie which saw Noppert average only 80 to start his campaign.
Noppert had a shocking start to proceedings with the Dutchman averaging just 69 and Carolissen as a result took the initiative and headed into the lead on his debut at 1-0 up.
But Noppert battled back despite both still not being at their best with Carolissen missing two set darts to double his lead, Noppert as a result claimed it with a 13-darter to level the match up.
He then went 2-1 up in sets despite averaging just 80 with 6/20 on the doubles in another decider with neither player able to kick into life and streak away.
Once again, the fourth set went to a decider and after Noppert had missed the opportunity at a 56 checkout, Carolissen had double eight in his sights but busted slipping into double 16 which allowed the Dutchman a reprieve as he edged through.
