The
Nordic Darts Masters sees the return of the World Series of Darts. Our article features the field, results,
schedule,
Prize Money, Predictions and how to watch the action from Copenhagen between June 6-7.
Taking place at Forum Copenhagen, it is the fifth staging and sees top PDC names, eight in all face eight Nordic and Baltic/regional qualifiers mainly made up of top players from the region most of whom have Tour Cards.
Gerwyn Price is defending champion having won last year defeating Rob Cross 8-5 in the final. Both return this year for another crack at the title with the winner sealing £30,000 for this World Series tournament. In addition it is also the first route towards Amsterdam and the World Series Finals at the turn of the year.
Field
The field is technically led seeding wise by Stephen Bunting who is number one seed alongside Rob Cross, Gerwyn Price and
Luke Littler for this event. Albeit this perhaps isn't a true reflection with players like
Luke Humphries and Nathan Aspinall being non seeds.
Jonny Clayton also joins the fray while Chris Dobey has received a sudden chance after the withdrawal of Michael van Gerwen who is out due to splitting with long-time wife Daphne. He has decided to take some time out for the foreseeable. Luke Humphries also leads the way while they take on Nordic and Baltic players.
This led by Madars Razma as well as Jeffrey de Graaf, Oskar Lukasiak, Cor Dekker, Viktor Tingstrom as well as Benjamin Reus. Andreas Harrysson and Darius Labanauskas too are involved. It is mostly made up of former PDC Tour Card holders who will take on the big names.

Predictions
Samuel Gill for DartsNews.com sees a potential outsider winning this title. "I think that Jonny Clayton is a potential title winner here based solely because of his recent form on the European Tour. He has received a chance here and while most other players will be burned out, he will be one who potentially thrives from it."
"Of course shoe in the likes of Luke Humphries and Luke Littler to the list but the motivation factor of playing in Copenhagen has to be questioned especially with the World Cup so soon after so it could be a time for another player to shine."
Favourites:
***** Jonny Clayton
*** Luke Humphries, Luke Littler, Nathan Aspinall, Gerwyn Price
* Stephen Bunting, Chris Dobey, Rob Cross
Can Jonny Clayton rise to the occasion?
Pieter Verbeek, writer for DartsNieuws.com sees the more likely outcome though: "The regional players should be capable of giving the PDC stars a tough time at the Nordic Darts Masters. Perhaps Andreas Harrysson and Jeffrey de Graaf can cause an upset against Rob Cross and Chris Dobey, respectively. However, a role in the battle for the title seems out of the question. Personally, I expect another showdown between Luke Littler and Luke Humphries in the final, with Littler coming out on top this time."
Favourites:
***** Luke Littler
*** Luke Humphries, Nathan Aspinall, Gerwyn Price
* Stephen Bunting, Andreas Harrysson, Jeffrey de Graaf
Mees Dekker, writer for DartsNieuws.com agrees with Samuel's prediction on Jonny Clayton. "My prediction for the Nordic Darts Masters is that Jonny Clayton will take the title. He recently won Euro Tour 7 in the Netherlands and followed that up with a semi-final appearance in Euro Tour 8, which included a dominant whitewash victory over Mike de Decker. It's fair to say he's in excellent form right now.
Luke Littler to avenge recent Premier League final loss?
"His first-round opponent is Darius Labanauskas, so I don’t expect that to be a particularly tough hurdle for him. Of course, Luke Littler is another strong contender. He might be especially motivated to bounce back after his loss to Luke Humphries in the Premier League final. For me, his choice of darts could make the difference.
"If he uses the same setup he had in the Premier League final, I believe he has a very strong chance to win the tournament. But if he experiments with different darts, things could get more difficult for him.
"On the other side of the
draw is Rob Cross. While he hasn’t been in top form recently, I think that could actually serve as motivation for him. He has favorable matchups in the first and second rounds, so I can see him making it to the final.
"Personally, I’d love to see a player like Jeffrey de Graaf or Andreas Harrysson make a deep run, but realistically, I don’t expect that to happen.
Favourites:
***** Jonny Clayton
*** Rob Cross, Luke Littler, Luke Humphries
* Stephen Bunting, Gerwyn Price, Chris Dobey
Kieran Wood, writer for DartsNews.com sees one winner and it is more of the same. "As always with the World Series of Darts, it's the PDC stars that will start as the pre-tournament favourites. In particular this time around, I'm looking towards Luke Littler. After his defeat to Humphries in the Premier League finale, Littler might feel he has a point to prove and will be keen to quickly restore that aura of invincibility this weekend.
"In terms of who could be the best of the other eight, Andreas Harrysson is my one to watch. Quite possibly the best player without a Tour Card, the Swede has shown glimpses of his capabilities on the Euro Tour of late, and is more than capable of springing a surprise against Cross in the opening round here.
Favourites:
***** Luke Littler
*** Luke Humphries, Gerwyn Price, Nathan Aspinall, Jonny Clayton
* Stephen Bunting, Chris Dobey, Rob Cross
Mats Leering, writer for DartsNieuws.com sees only three players realistically competing and those are the three best in the field.
"For the Nordic Darts Masters, Luke Littler is the big favourite for me. The youngster is on the easier side of the schedule as far as I am concerned and therefore I am betting that the world champion will come out on top in Copenhagen. Furthermore, on the other side of the schedule, I think Price and Humphries will decide who the other finalist will be.
"I do see both men winning against Cor Dekker and Madars Razma respectively, and then a mutual duel will determine who advances to the semi-finals, and in my opinion the final after that. As for the Nordic players, I only see a possible shock for Andreas Harrysson (against Rob Cross) and Jeffrey de Graaf (against Chris Dobey).
Favourites:
***** Luke Littler
**** Luke Humphries, Gerwyn Price
Jack Clucas, writer for DartsNews.com sees another win for 'The Nuke' in the offing.
"I can see Luke Littler coming out victorious at the Nordic Darts Masters after suffering a disappointing loss in the Premier League final, against World Cup teammate Luke Humphries. The current World Champion has had a turbulent year so far after winning the UK Open and finishing top of the table in the Premier League, despite a loss in the overall final.
"However there is doubt as to wether the player from Warrington can live up to lofty expectations in this one as Littler has withdrawn from any Euro Tour events in Germany due to problems with the crowd earlier this year, so it will be interesting to see how the young starlet can get on in this event. I could see Gerwyn Price defeating Luke Humphries likewise on the other side of the draw in the semi-final as the Welshman will likely get a better reception than he is used to and this could spur him on to play at the standards we all know he’s capable of.
"As for the Nordic players, last year's exploits at the World Championship could help Jeffrey De Graaf to show what he’s capable of against Chris Dobey and pick up a shock victory.
"Likewise for Darius Labananauskas if he could turn back the clock to his World Championship 9 dart hitting exploits we could be in for a cracker as he looks to upset the seeds by defeating Jonny Clayton. These are the only 2 Nordic players I believe have a good chance to progress through to the Quarter finals as the standard is seemingly higher than ever for the top players.
"Ultimately, I would be surprised if Luke Littler doesn’t win this event as the disappointing result last week should encourage him to start practicing more and in turn this would be a perfect place to put things right as it could be another Luke (Littler) & Luke (Humphries) final showdown for everyone to enjoy."

****Gerwyn Price

**Nathan Aspinall
*Jonny Clayton, Stephen Bunting, Rob Cross, Chris Dobey
Another viewpoint shared by Milly Thomson, writer for DartsNews.com. "My favourite going into the Nordic Darts Masters has to be Luke Littler. I believe after the Premier League loss last Thursday he will want to get another trophy behind him before the World Cup of darts. He has the easier side of the draw which makes me believe reaching the final has to be a must for him.
"On the other side of the draw the two stand out names for me are the world number 1, Luke Humphries and Nathan Aspinall. Aspinall is starting to gain some confidence and form in every tournament he plays in and whilst he’s on the form he’s on, he can beat everyone. With Humphries you can never right him off and for the same reasons as Littler I see it being a big boost winning again just before the World Cup of Darts. I see the England World Cup pairing meeting in the final of the Nordic Darts Masters and Littler coming out on top this time."
Luke Humphries to continue title winning run?
While Nicolas Gayer, writer for DartsNews.DE finally sees two players meeting in the final with recent title winning form.
"As it has happened in the past at the World Series that all PDC representatives won their first round duels and therefore no local representatives took part in the event on the second day of the tournament, I'll start with this: We will definitely see a Nordic representative in round two - my choice for this is Dirty Harry Andreas Harrysson.
"Harrysson was in top form last weekend in Leverkusen, where he eliminated Raymond van Barneveld and Michael Smith on his way to the last 16 before narrowly losing to eventual finalist Damon Heta. I think Harrysson will prevail against Rob Cross and reach the second round - most probably as the only one of the eight Nordic participants.
"On the second day of the tournament, we will almost have an extra Premier League matchday. I assume that Jonny Clayton, Nathan Aspinall, Chris Dobey and Luke Humphries will play their way into the semi-finals. After his triumph in Leverkusen, I expect Nathan Aspinall to continue his high level of form. I also think that the weekend in Copenhagen could be some kind of turning point for Chris Dobey. Despite finishing the season in 6th place in the table, Chris Dobey seemed to me to ‘suffer’ the most from the weekly Premier League workload.
"While Hollywood has long since established himself as one of the best players in the world, especially on the floor, and once again proved his world-class stage game at the last World Championship, he often looked tense in the Premier League and rarely found his refreshingly relaxed and casual game. At the weekend in Leverkusen, however, things looked very different again: As if the Premier League burden had been lifted from his shoulders at the end of the season, Chris Dobey played big in the Ostermann Arena: After a 6-5 win over German talent Niko Springer, he shone in his second round duel against Andrew Gilding with a 6-3 victory and an average of 110.84 points.
"Nevertheless, I assume that the newly crowned Premier League champion Luke Humphries will be too big of a test for Hollywood in the semi-finals. Cool Hand Luke will then meet Jonny Clayton in the final, who will continue his outstanding run of form against Nathan Aspinall, but will then lose 5-8 to the world number one in the final."
