William O'Connor is the first player through to the European Championship Quarter-Finals after easing past Jamie Hughes in a 10-3 win to begin Friday's afternoon session.
O'Connor wasn't in the tournament until Glen Durrant's positive COVID test ruled him out but has taken his chance once more with a 10-3 win over 'Yozza' with a 95 average and 50% on the doubles.
O'Connor pounced on double trouble early on from Hughes with the latter missing five in second leg allowing 'The Magpie' to double his lead.
From there, it began to become cruise control for O'Connor as he pinned double 20 last dart in hand to make it 4-0 and make it a double break.
He led the Tipton ace 5-0 going into the interval. Hughes finally got off the mark at 5-1 down but it was only a hold and this meant that O'Connor went 6-1 up from there.
O'Connor made it 7-2 in front and he claimed another break to go into an 8-2 lead and only two away from the finishing line.
Hughes attempted to spark himself into life from there smashing in a 122 checkout to break throw and go 8-3 down. But O'Connor broke back with a 138 checkout to make it 9-3 to dent those hopes.
