This past weekend, the
European Darts Grand Prix took place in Sindelfingen, Germany. For the second consecutive year, the title went to a resurgent and highly impressive
Gary Anderson. The 54-year-old Scotsman delivered a dominant performance in the final, sweeping aside England’s
Andrew Gilding with a commanding 8-0 victory.
The PDC
European Tour, which first launched in 2012 with just five events on its calendar, has grown significantly over the years. In 2025, the tour now features fourteen tournaments spread across Europe, showcasing some of the best talent in the sport. Since its inception, a total of 129 European Tour events have been staged, highlighting the series’ steady expansion and importance in the professional darts circuit.
What made this weekend’s final particularly notable was the rarity of the result. Anderson’s 8-0 demolition of Gilding marked only the fourth whitewash ever recorded in a European Tour final. The first of these clean-sweep finals came in 2015, when
Michael van Gerwen stormed to a 6-0 win over
Justin Pipe in the Dutch Darts Masters.
Michael van Gerwen was involved in two 'whitewashes' in European Tour finals
The second instance followed two years later in 2017, also at the European Darts Grand Prix, when
Peter Wright dismantled Van Gerwen with an emphatic 6-0 scoreline. The third whitewash occurred more recently in 2021 at the German Darts Trophy, where Gerwyn Price dominated Mensur Suljović to seal an 8-0 triumph. Anderson’s victory now joins this exclusive list, underlining just how rare and remarkable such one-sided finals are at this level of the sport.
With the conclusion of the European Darts Grand Prix, the European Tour now pauses for a short break. The next event on the schedule is the Dutch Darts Championship, which will take place over the weekend of May 23rd, 24th, and 25th in Rosmalen, Netherlands. There, Northern Ireland’s Josh Rock will return in an attempt to defend the title he captured last year. The tournament promises to be another thrilling chapter in what has already been an action-packed season on the European Tour.
