Rashad Sweeting might not have won on his
PDC World Darts Championship debut on Tuesday night against
Jeffrey de Graaf but the Bahamian leaves the
Alexandra Palace having made a lasting impact in his brief appearance.
Sweeting had obviously resolved to fully enjoy the atmosphere in
Ally Pally and, meanwhile, was loudly encouraged by the fans in the room. The "walking in a Sweeting wonderland" echoed loudly several times in Alexandra Palace. Although the result did not go his way, Sweeting can return home with an experience richer.
Such an impact was made hy Sweeting that tournament sponsors Paddy Power are making a special, one-off charitable gesture in honour of the Bahamian.
"Rashad Sweeting could’ve played it sensible but he went for the 180 instead," Paddy Power write on
social media, showing the video of Sweeting's epic 180 in the second set, followed up a Cole Palmer celebration, requested of him by a fan. "So, as thanks for being a legend and triggering another £1,000 donation from us to
Prostate Cancer UK, we’re making the one-off pledge to pay his travel costs to and from the Bahamas. Fair play Rashad"
