Patrick Tringler took the overall win on Saturday at the first tournament of the PDC Europe Next Gen. The Austrian narrowly won over Dragutin Horvat in the final.
Tringler also showed well recently at the European Q-School, but ultimately fell one point short of grabbing a PDC Tour Card. Missing out on a Tour Card, however, allowed Tringler to compete at the PDC Europe Next Gen.
This circuit was first created by PDC Europe in 2024. These tournaments are open to emerging players without Tour Cards from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.
More than 100,000 pounds of prize money is paid out each season. Besides prize money for results achieved, rewards are at stake for short legs (winning legs in 12 arrows or less), high scores (171 or more) and high finishes (101 and above).
The best players of the PDC Europe Next Gen are eligible to participate in the PDC Europe Super League. Through this darts competition, one starting spot for the World Darts Championship can ultimately be earned.
Tringler did good business by winning the first tournament. Well-known German players such as Steffen Siepmann, Michael Unterbuchner and Niko Springer were eliminated in the last 32, while the Swiss Stefan Bellmont and Marcel Welpen did not make it past the last 32.
Next, Tringler was responsible for eliminating Michael Hurtz (3-0) at the last sixteen, before also dealing with Daniel Skoda (4-2), Yorick Hofkens (5-2) and Dragutin Horvat (6-5).
