Patrik Kovács has qualified for his first-ever participation in the World Darts Championship, to be held at Alexandra Palace in December. The 29-year-old Hungarian secured his World Championship spot by winning the Hungarian Super League 2025.
Kovács is no stranger to international darts. Over the past decade, he has represented Hungary four times at the World Cup of Darts, but participation in the World Cup was still missing from his record of achievements. That dream is now finally coming true.
The Hungarian had a strong tournament in Budapest and managed to fight his way through the early rounds to the final. On Saturday, Oct. 18, he crowned his excellent form by performing rock solid in the final stage.
In the quarterfinals, Kovács disposed of György Jehirszki thanks to a narrow 2-1 victory, after which he was too strong for András Borbély in the semifinals with the same figures. In the final, he faced Péter Kelemen, who had made an impressive run until then.
Kovács faced a 2-1 deficit in the opening set, but fought back and turned the game around completely. With a convincing second set, which he won 3-1, he finished the job and crowned himself champion of the Hungarian Super League.
Thanks to this title, Patrik Kovács can prepare for his World Cup debut on the biggest stage of all: Alexandra Palace in London. With this, he becomes the latest name on the growing list of Eastern European darters to qualify for the PDC World Championship.
