The PDC have announced its latest move in pushing Womenโ€™s Darts with the introduction of the Womenโ€™s World Matchplay which is due to take place during the prestigious tournament at the Winter Gardens on Sunday July 24.
Held during the afternoon session, it will see an eight player field battling it out with a ยฃ25,000 prize fund on offer, as well as a place in Novemberโ€™s Grand Slam of Darts.
The field will comprise the top eight players from the 2022 PDC Womenโ€™s Series Order of Merit after the opening 12 events with an expanded calendar set to take place this year. This begins on March 12-13.
โ€œWeโ€™re delighted to be able to add the Betfred Womenโ€™s World Matchplay to our calendar,โ€ said PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter.
โ€œWe have expanded our commitment to womenโ€™s darts in recent years following the introduction of the PDC Womenโ€™s Series, and we feel that the time is right to give these players a televised tournament.
โ€œThe Winter Gardens in Blackpool is an iconic venue which hosts top-class darts, and itโ€™s fitting that eight top women will now get to grace the stage in July to compete in the Betfred Womenโ€™s World Matchplay, live on Sky Sports.
โ€œThis event will take our total prize fund for womenโ€™s events to ยฃ125,000 this year as we continue to create opportunities at a professional level for players across our developmental tours.โ€
