The PDC has announced the schedule for the 2022 Premier League Darts. However, it became clear that the competition will not be finished in May as usual.
Only the first six weeks have been given a date and location. It is not known on which date the ten remaining rounds and the play-offs will be played. The PDC did announce that a round will be played in Berlin on Monday June 13.
On Thursday 3 February the Premier League Darts gets underway in the Welsh capital Cardiff. Defending champion Jonny Clayton opens the event with a match against newcomer Joe Cullen. World number one Gerwyn Price takes on James Wade in front of his own audience. World Championship runner-up Michael Smith gets a new chance against Peter Wright, against whom Smith lost the battle for the world title. Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson close the first week of play.
New format
The eight participants play a tournament sixteen times. It will be arranged so that a player meets the other participants twice in the quarter-finals. During two weeks of play, in the eighth and sixteenth week, the draw is determined by league standings heading into each night.
Points can be scored with results in the sixteen tournaments. A semi-final earns two points, a second place three points and a tournament win five points and a £10,000 bonus.
Based on these points the new Premier League Darts ranking is formed. The four best players advance to the Premier League Darts play-offs.
