The World Cup of Darts recently posed the continuation of the ever continuing debate about the format and a shift potentially to fully playing pairs.
PDC Chief Executive, Matt Porter discussed a recent survey sent out asking about the World Cup and said that while a format change could occur, he doesn't like the preoccupation with pairs for every match.
"It's interesting this much craved thing because you have to think the whole thing through. People say they just want pairs matches but for me, the beauty of the World Cup is partly due to the fact it's pairs but it's also significantly to do with the fact it's short matches," said Porter to Online Darts.
"That's where you get the drama because if it was pairs and it was 10-0, it would be the most boring thing you've ever seen because it would be slow and one team would be struggling and it just wouldn't work so the idea of having the short matches gives you that drama.
"Even if it's 4-0, at 3-0, the other guy has still got a chance. It's always going to be within reach, we're always looking at formats and there are things we want to do with the World Cup which I think people will find very exciting but perhaps just not a preoccupation with going all to pairs."
