The
World Darts Championship ended in a big disappointment for
Kim Huybrechts. 'The Hurricane' went down 3-0 against Richard Veenstra in the second round.
Huybrechts lost nine legs in a row against his Dutch opponent. "This is perhaps the biggest disappointment of my career," Huybrechts told Het Nieuwsblad.
The 38-year-old Belgian was also unsympathetic to the media, with reports of his feud with Dimitri Van den Bergh appearing again in the run-up to the World Championship. "My preparation was going super well, but then articles about my past cropped up again, which makes you feel a little foggy."
Huybrechts therefore draws his lessons from this World Championship. "From 2024 it's just Kim Huybrechts and nobody else. I'm not going to look at other players in the world anymore. Number 1, 2 or 3 in the world, it doesn't interest me anymore. Also the other Belgians. I tried to take them pretty far, but I don't care about all that now either."
"I want to add ten more years at the highest level, but apparently I have become a target," Huybrechts concluded.
