Berry van Peer pulled off a shock in the second round of the
World Darts Championship. The 27-year-old Dutchman defeated 23rd-seeded Northern Irishman Josh Rock 3-1.
Van Peer, however, went to Alexandra Palace with doubts after he fell down the stairs at home last week, sustaining two bruised ribs. "Maybe this was my Christmas present," he told AD.nl.
But will Christmas plans be jeopardized by this win? "Well, I ordered meat from the butcher and it has already been picked up, but there is no one home right now to prepare it so I have to go back to Brabant soon," he laughs. "Yes, tomorrow I'm going back to Brabant. First celebrate Christmas, relax a bit and then go back to London. I don't know yet with whom I will return, I have to ask around who wants to come along and who can get time off from work. As long as I'm there myself, haha!"
Van Peer is reviving after a particularly unpleasant period in which he was plagued by dartitis. "I don't really deal with it anymore now, but there are also people with dartitis who ask me for a clinic. I like to help people get on the right path. That's a beautiful thing."
'Bionic' will take on Damon Heta in the third round after Christmas, who was too strong for Martin Lukeman 3-1 in his opening match. "He didn't play his best in his first game so he has to play better, otherwise it won't be enough," he said.
