Peter Wright "at his lowest professionally since 2013" believes Wayne Mardle

It's fair to say that 2023 has been a struggle so far for Peter Wright. Just the sole Premier League win sees him rock bottom of the table and there has been little relief for the Scot away from the Thursday night lights. Now, Wayne Mardle has shared his belief that Wright is "at his lowest professionally since 2013."

Wright was knocked out of the recent International Darts Open with a resounding 6-0 defeat to Michael van Gerwen, something that Mardle says didn't come as a shock. "The fact that I even contemplated MVG beating Peter 6-0 says a lot," Hawaii 501 tells the Daily Star.

The former two-time world champion has had a lot to deal with off the board in recent months with wife Jo spending time in hospital at the end of 2022. Mardle hopes this isn't the last we see of Peter Wright competing in the top echelons of darts.

"Peter is at his lowest professionally since 2013. I really hope this is a blip and nothing else. He’s such an asset to world darts. He’s a great guy too."
