Peter Wright the most high profile of first round casualties at Players Championship 29

The end of the first round at the 29th Players Championship tournament of the 2024 season has reached a conclusion. Sadly for one of the sport's biggest names, Peter Wright, it's already time to depart.

The Scottish former two-time champion of the world suffered a disappointing first round defeat at the hands of Jim Williams, 6-2. Elsewhere, Williams' compatriot, Jonny Clayton also fell at the first hurdle, dropping to a 6-3 loss to Steve Lennon. Many big names are still involved though, Michael Smith, Nathan Aspinall, Gary Anderson, Rob Cross and more are still in the hunt.

A total of 125,000 pounds in prize money is distributed at each Players Championship tournament. The winner of the event will receive a check for 15,000 pounds.
