Michael Smith and Stephen Bunting are among the first names to secure a spot in the second round at the 29th
Players Championship tournament of the season this Wednesday afternoon.
Rock particularly impressed, averaging over 113 in a 6-2 success over Karel Sedlacek. Smith shone also, averaging over 106 as he dispatched Jamie Hughes 6-4, whilst Masters champion Bunting saw off Danny Lauby 6-4.
Elsewhere,
Gary Anderson survived six match darts against Matthew Dennant before 'The Flying Scotsman won 6-5. Gian Veen dealt with Keegan Brown, who was able to keep up with the Dutchman in the first six. Van Veen then made up the difference with two 15-darters and a 14-darter to end the match 6-3.
Raymond van Barneveld recorded a fairly comfortable victory over Lee Evans. Through two 14-darters and a 15-darter, the 57-year-old from the Netherlands took a 3-0 lead and Van Barneveld was able to turn this good start into a 6-3 victory.
A total of 125,000 pounds in prize money is distributed at each Players Championship tournament. The winner of the event will receive a check for 15,000 pounds.
