Poland's pairing of Krzysztof Ratajski and Krzysztof Kciuk are set for the second round after a superb opening display to see off Czech Republic 5-2 with a 104.97 average.
They doubled their lead with a break early on which set the tone for the rest of the game for the duo and despite a 124 checkout for Gawlas which saw them hang in proceedings at 4-2 down, it was a mere consolation.
Ratajski though finalised proceedings with a 122 checkout and did his standard celebration post match with the pride of once again representing his country.
Before that, it was a 5-3 win for Lithuania as they saw off Hungary. It was only a 75 average in a tense display with the pairing of Darius Labanuskas and Mindaugas Barauskas just holding the edge.
