Looking back at 2020 despite having no crowds for the most part produced some quality matches with a high standard evident both on TV but also on the ProTour events.

In the latest poll ran by DartsNews, there are four picks for best televised darts match of 2020 which have been selected. Which one is your favourite or if there is another match which you think should have been included, let us know in the comments feature at the bottom of the article.

The first match is the last major tournament in the UK with a crowd for its entirety in the form of the UK Open which saw Michael van Gerwen scoop only one of two TV tournaments in what was a barren year for the now World Number Two.

He faced off against his successor Gerwyn Price in the final in a match where he came from 5-1 down to win 11-9 in the same scoreline and the same venue as his 2019 Players Championship Finals win against the same opponent in 'The Iceman'. A rivalry which will likely continue into 2021 and it is the first pick.

The second also features Van Gerwen with his thrilling defeat to Simon Whitlock which saw 'The Wizard' throw a remarkable 20 180's in one of the greatest games seen in the modern era as he survived eight match darts despite his scoring prowess but made it three consecutive televised wins over the Green Machine.

The third match sees the Gary Anderson and Mensur Suljovic tie which evoked the term 'Tablegate' which was a main talking point during the 2021 PDC World Darts Championship where there were complaints by 'The Flying Scotsman' about Suljovic's slow play and also him going to the wrong table as he threatened to quit darts if that behaviour continues.

Not an enthralling match standard wise but for the needle, it will end 2020 as potentially the most talked about game.

As will Joe Cullen losing out agonisingly to Michael van Gerwen at the World Championship. Cullen went storming out of the blocks and went 3-1 up before missing two match darts as the Dutchman was let off the hook in one of the most enthralling matches of all time in the showpiece event.

'The Rockstar' despite defeat showed he could do it on the World Championship stage and after previously beating Van Gerwen in a European Tour final during 2020 convincingly, that play came back when he needed it most despite heading out of the tournament.
