As the PDC World Darts Championship concludes, the 2025 Premier League Darts announcement is the next big part of the darting calendar Q-School aside. Now you can have your say.
Our poll features names who are not in the top four such as Michael van Gerwen, Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Rob Cross who will qualify for the tournament by right and likely be included for name value alone.
It is more of an open process for 2025 which begins in Belfast on February 6. Many of the top names are out of form and there have been more new major winners than ever meaning one or two names are likely to differ from the Status Quo.
Albeit PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter hinted at no real change with his recent interview surrounding the picks saying that they are more likely to pick those who are commercially viable and fill seats.
"We are probably not going to please everybody. But we have to make the decision that we feel is right for the millions who'll watch on TV and the hundred-plus thousand who'll join us in the arenas," he adds. "Whatever decision we make, as long as people are talking about it, we've made the right decision."
For reference, we need eight names who will form part of the elite. Luke Littler is the current champion and like alluded to, four names are already confirmed.
Michael Smith, Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price and Nathan Aspinall are those from last year who albeit have name value have had torrid years. They were for the most part poor in the Premier League and for Smith and Wright continue to tumble down the rankings.
As of time of writing, Smith is in 16th. Wright is down in 12th albeit went up five spots from his initial 17th position. Nathan Aspinall too is not in the top 10, while Price sits only just in. This means that after criticism in the past at them leaving players out for winning one major and not being inside the main top 10, those elite names could be included again despite not being in the top 10.
Among those likely in the conversation include Stephen Bunting who missed out in 2024 despite his cult status growing and being a major champion albeit he won that title after the line-up was announced. Chris Dobey benefitted from winning The Masters and has a good World Championship on his side as well as the Newcastle night.
Then it is onto players from across Europe as Mike de Decker lost early at the PDC World Darts Championship which could affect his hopes with many thinking he was a shoe-in as a Sky major winner until Ally Pally.
Dimitri van den Bergh was spotted as part of the silhouettes but is that a red herring or is that an indication that 'The Dreammaker' who won the UK Open earlier this year but has not been in great form since could get in to fill that gap.
Ritchie Edhouse is another new winner who is likely it seems to be missing out with ITV major winners usually shunted out including Ross Smith and Rob Cross previously. Others to likely consider include Dave Chisnall, Jonny Clayton and Damon Heta.
Will Gary Anderson make a sudden U-turn on wanting to play in the travelling roadshow again? It will all be revealed at 16:30 GMT tomorrow but until then, fans can pick one player to join the four already confirmed as such.
