Porter looks back on darts during Coronavirus pandemic: "It's been a remarkable achievement to get us to where we are now"

Matthew Porter, Chief Executive of the PDC sat down during the recent World Championship to discuss how it was staged and also darts as a whole during Coronavirus times.

While some other sports have had limited action during the pandemic, darts has continued whether online or behind closed doors and it is an achievement that Porter is proud of.

"The year's been a challenge. We had a couple of months where we didn't have any activity at all, no tournaments, no action for fans or players. Then we came back with the Home Tour which was quite an innovative concept," said Porter on the Darts Show.

"That was a real triumph of innovation and creativity. We came back with what we call the Summer Series which was five days of Players Championship events which we staged at Milton Keynes which was great, we had almost all the Tour Card holders back. We put on a safe quarantine environment where they isolated in the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes."

"That rolled out to the World Matchplay, the Premier League and we went on to stage the World Grand Prix, the Grand Slam and all our other major events in that environment.

"It's been a remarkable achievement to get us to where we are now, I think people have had the good times out of darts in the last few years and that's meant when we've faced some adversity, everybody's pulled together and tried to make sure we get through as best we can. It's been a challenge and it's been something that hopefully we never have to go through again."
