Pots revealed ahead of the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts draw: Plenty of potential for group of death

On Monday, Nov. 4, the draw for the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts will be conducted. Traditionally, the 32 participants will begin the tournament with a group stage. The group stage consists of eight groups of four players each. They play once against the other players in the group before the numbers one and two of each groups advance to the knockout phase.

The pot arrangement for the draw is now also clear. The 32 participants will be ranked according to their position in the world rankings. The eight highest ranked players have acquired protected status and will be divided among the eight groups.

Defending champion Luke Humphries already knows he will end up in Group A, while number two Michael Smith is going to be in Group E. With Michael van Gerwen and Danny Noppert, there are two Dutchmen seeded, as well as reigning UK Open champion Dimitri van den Bergh, Rob Cross, Dave Chisnall and Stephen Bunting.

In pot B are the following eight world-ranked players. This pot includes Peter Wright, Josh Rock, James Wade, Luke Littler, Gary Anderson, Ross Smith, Martin Schindler and Mike de Decker. Next, Ritchie Edhouse, Gian van Veen, Ryan Joyce, Jermaine Wattimena, Cameron Menzies, Martin Lukeman, Keane Barry and Mickey Mansell are among the players in pot C.

The final pot of players includes Mensur Suljovic, Wessel Nijman, Rowby-John Rodriguez, Leonard Gates, Beau Greaves, Lourence Ilagan and Noa-Lynn van Leuven. To that will be added the winner of the Challenge Tour circuit.

Which group will be the group of death will not be clear until Monday, although there is a gritty variation. How about reigning world champion Humphries, teenage sensation and Premier League champion Littler, a Cameron Menzies in super form and up-and-coming talent Wessel Nijman.
