Scott Taylor took the eighth weekly title in the ninth season of the
MODUS Super Series on Saturday night. After a thrilling final night, he collected the top prize of £5,000.
A new competition is played each week on the MODUS Super Series. The best six players from the first five days of play met Saturday divided into two pools during the final day of the eighth week of play. In the thirteenth week of play, the 12 weekly winners will take on each other.
Group A had a very exciting conclusion. In it, Kurt Parry, Anton Ostlund and Scott Taylor all managed to win one match 4-3. As a result, the point total and the leg balance of all three players were equal. A 9-dart shootout had to determine which two players would advance to the semifinals. In this, Parry scored the fewest points and thus dropped out.
Marvin van Velzen recorded resounding victories over Mark Dudbridge (4-0) and Scott Baker (4-0) in Group B to join the last four. Baker also secured a semifinal spot after a 4-1 win over Dudbridge.
In the first semifinal, Taylor settled with Baker (4-3) after a decisive leg. Van Velzen then became the second finalist by beating Ostlund 4-1. In the final, Taylor was then 4-2 too strong for the Dutchman.
Taylor is the eighth weekly winner this season after Darius Labanauskas, Andreas Harrysson, Andy Hamilton, Kai Gotthardt, Paul Hogan, Tom Sykes and John Henderson. The twelve weekly winners will meet in the thirteenth week. Then they will compete for the top prize of 25,000 pounds.
