Michael van Gerwen has lost his top spot to Luke Humphries after his third consecutive defeat in Premier League Darts. 'Cool Hand Luke' managed to take his second consecutive weekly title on Thursday night in Nottingham.
Humphries had started the evening with a 6-4 victory over Michael Smith thanks to an average of 103.51. He repeated that in his semifinal by knocking out Peter Wright 6-1. In that match, Humphries threw a 106.66 per turn average. Humphries was then too strong for Nathan Aspinall in the final, 6-3. The reigning world champion now tops the rankings with seventeen points, while Michael van Gerwen is second with fifteen points. Luke Littler is the number three with thirteen points.
Nathan Aspinall is the new number four with eleven points after his third weekly final in a four-week span. Rob Cross has also collected eleven points, but is below Aspinall because 'The Asp' already has a weekly title under his belt.
Michael Smith suffered his fourth defeat in five matches in Nottingham and has now slipped to sixth place. Gerwyn Price is number seven, while Peter Wright is still last. However, 'Snakebite' managed to pick up his first points in the competition on Thursday night.
