Michael van Gerwen went down 6-2 against Luke Littler in the quarterfinals of the seventh day of play of
Premier League Darts. Afterwards, he faced, once again, Viaplay.
Van Gerwen, who himself averaged 110 but saw his opponent top the 114 average, still started the interview with Viaplay presenter Bart Nolles on a positive note. "I'm playing my best match in a few weeks. I haven't had my best week physically. When I throw that well, it does me good. I had a shot in my shoulder on Wednesday, so my injury is not over yet," he said. But when Nolles asked if Van Gerwen had ever before lost a match in the first round of a tournament five times in a row, 'Mighty Mike' went wild. "If you want to make it negative then, by all means do so," he responded irritably.
"You've never looked at me, of course that happened to me once. I disagree with you."
Van Gerwen also took issue with Viaplay last week, when he blamed the channel for doing the interview via a zoom link on the laptop, instead of sending a journalist on site. He didn't complain about that this time, but even so, the interview ended quickly.
"You know, again: if you want to make it negative, then by all means, do so. Figure it out, bye." Van Gerwen then pulled out his earpiece and raced off.
Van Gerwen, by the way, has lost his lead after seven nights in Premier League Darts. The 34-year-old Dutchman now trails new leader Luke Humphries by two points.
