Michael van Gerwen is still comfortably in the lead after the fifth round of Premier League Darts play. However, 'Mighty Mike' failed to add any points to his total on Thursday night in Exeter.
In the quarterfinals, Van Gerwen lost 6-3 to Luke Humphries, leaving the 34-year-old Dutchman stuck on 15 points. Prior to the fifth round of play, Van Gerwen had a seven-point lead, which has now shrunk to six points.
Indeed, Luke Littler and Rob Cross now stand on nine points. Littler lost on Thursday in the semifinals to Cross, who in turn went down against Nathan Aspinall in the final match. 'The Asp' captured his first weekly title of the season in Exeter.
Michael Smith and Luke Humphries are narrowly outside the virtual spots for the playoffs with seven points. Gerwyn Price holds seventh place with five points, while Peter Wright remains scoreless.
