Premier League Darts review and preview: Price still 'king of the draws' in new season

In the run-up to the resumption of the Premier League Darts 2020 on August 25, Dartsnews looks back on the performances per player in the first six weeks of the competition. This time, Gerwyn Price is in the spotlight.
Price had the most draws to his name in the Premier League Darts last season. This year still leading this classification with three draws in his first six matches. As he kicked off the league with five points from six games, his start can be labeled as disappointing.
The Welshman started the league with three draws. He got one point from his matches against Rob Cross, Michael Smith and Daryl Gurney. Of this trio, only Smith is above him in the ranking.
He booked his first victory on Night Four. Price booked a convincing 7-1 victory over Peter Wright in Dublin as he retained his unbeaten streak. But that status came to an end.
On March 5 in Exeter, the world numbr three lost 7-3 against the current leader Glen Durrant. This was followed by a second loss against Michael van Gerwen (7-5) in the following week.
The two-time Grand Slam champion will face Nathan Aspinall, Gary Anderson and 'challenger' Jermaine Wattimena in his remaining three matches of the first league phase.

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. I no longer play now, darts is as good as dead at a local level round my way but when i did play many years ago, no matter how intense the rivalry you never shouted out or whistled when an opponent from the other team was throwing for a double.Mysstree17-11-2024
