Premier League Darts table topper Van Gerwen ends campaign with superb win over Wright

Michael van Gerwen was assured of finishing in top spot during the regular Premier League season before his tie with Peter Wright but he still got the job done in an entertaining 8-6 victory.

Van Gerwen was helped out by Jose de Sousa who he could face in tomorrow's final if he sees off either Jonny Clayton or Dimitri van den Bergh who will dictate the final spot in their shootout.

While De Sousa is set to face Nathan Aspinall once more who was denied topping the table.

But in a tie against Wright which saw breaks of throw for the near entirety of the match, it was MVG who came out on top with a 100 average and three ton-plus checkouts against Wright as the fans at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes are getting their money's worth on the final night before the play-offs.

As a result, 'Mighty Mike' finishes on top of the table with 23 points and will look towards a sixth title tomorrow night.
