In the main PDC World Matchplay, it has served up a 'dream final' between Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen but in the inaugural Women's World Matchplay, it could do the same between
Lisa Ashton and
Fallon Sherrock with Sunday afternoon (13:00 BST) seeing the best ladies from the PDC
Women's Series battling it out.
A £10,000 top prize is on offer, as well as a Grand Slam of Darts spot and of course bragging rights of being the first winner with the tournament already renewed for a second edition next year.
Top seed is Ashton who takes on Scottish teenager, Chloe O'Brien in her opener who surged through to take the final spot out of the eight from the Order of Merit.
'The Lancashire Rose' has been dominant on the Women's Series winning a title every single day it has been hosted and will look to add another title to her glowing resume which includes being a four time World Champion and being the only female player to win through Q-School as of now.
But over the short format to begin of best of seven (first to four), it could see some early shocks in the Quarter-Finals before it goes up to best of nine and best of eleven for the semi's and final.
Laura Turner has been in Blackpool all week but in the commentary booth and on punditry duties for Sky Sports and will now swap the microphone for the big stage.
After reaching back-to-back finals on the Women's Series en route to qualification, she will feel confident of facing either Ashton or O'Brien in the semi-finals.
But in one of the toughest draws, she faces
Aileen de Graaf who herself reached two finals in the latest set of tournaments and was seen by many as the standout player of the weekend.
Speaking pre tournament though, the Dutchwoman revealed that she has recently suffered with COVID so may not be at her best in an intriguing second tie.
Third up is Fallon Sherrock who as usual will have all the attention when she returns to the big stage. Fresh off multiple World Series appearances including Amsterdam where she flew home to play Women's Series falling asleep on the opening day in the process.
But she will be refreshed and looking to live up to her billing which hasn't been the case at times this season. Albeit in
Katie Sheldon, she faces a rising Irish star who will make her TV debut but becoming only the third player to hit over a 95 average on the Women's Series behind Sherrock and Ashton certainly has the game to trouble and even shock Sherrock over the short format.
Facing the winner of that tie will be
Lorraine Winstanley or Rhian Griffiths. The former World Master and Lakeside runner-up has grown her game and has began to catch the forerunners on the Women's Series sealing a maiden title last month.
Looking to take that confidence into Blackpool, she faces the sixth seed Griffiths who will look to be one of two Welsh winners on Sunday if Price can pull off a triumph over Van Gerwen.
