At the
Players Championship Finals 2025 in Minehead, we have now reached the quarter-final with
Luke Littler and
Gerwyn Price still involved.
The quarterfinals will be played over best of 19 legs. So ten legs are needed to secure a spot in the semifinals. With Daryl Gurney, by the way, there is only one player left in the fight who has already won this tournament before (in 2018). Defending champion Luke Humphries already fell in the opening round against Gian van Veen.

Gerwyn Price vs. Daryl Gurney
The encounter between Gerwyn Price and Daryl Gurney is one between former major winners. Price has been on an excellent run all year with several ranking titles. Yet there is still something very important missing for 'The Iceman': a major title. The 40-year-old Welshman yearns for a new major title, his last having already been won in 2022 at the World Series of Darts Finals.
With Gurney, he will meet someone who already managed to win this tournament once in 2018. Gurney - this year's World Cup of Darts winner alongside
Josh Rock - only narrowly escaped elimination in the previous round after a 10-9 victory against Adam Lipscombe. However, the 39-year-old Northern Irishman knows what it takes to win major titles, as he has proven in the past. Price and Gurney have already met three times this year, twice Price drew the longest straw. The mental advantage therefore lies with Price, although Gurney can often surprise.

Luke Littler vs. Chris Dobey
Luke Littler will hunt for his sixth (!) major title of this year this weekend. 'The Nuke' seems barely unstoppable lately and the longer the format is, the harder it becomes to beat him. Moreover, the Players Championship Finals is still one of the few gaps in the still only 18-year-old Englishman's list of honors. Littler will therefore be keen to win this tournament.
With Dobey, he meets a compatriot who won the Masters in 2023 and has been fruitlessly searching for a second major title ever since. If he wants to win it this weekend, the first thing he has to do is get past Littler. Both men already played each other three times this year, twice Dobey managed to win. The mental advantage here might be with Dobey, although Littler doesn't seem to care. One thing is certain: both men have a very high scoring ability, so we can expect fireworks in this match.

Nathan Aspinall vs. Josh Rock
The quarterfinal between
Nathan Aspinall and Josh Rock is one between an established player and someone quietly working his way up to the top players in the PDC. Aspinall - plagued in part by injury - had a particularly difficult 2024, but this year he is regaining his good form. That has already earned him several ranking titles, but a majors title as yet. 'The Asp' remains stuck on two in that regard for now: UK Open 2019 and World Matchplay 2023. Or will a third major title be added this weekend?
If so, Aspinall will have to get past Rock in the first place. The 24-year-old Northern Irishman has been labeled a future major winner for several years, but his best result for now is a semifinal place at both the UK Open, World Matchplay and World Series of Darts Finals. 'Rocky' did win the World Cup of Darts earlier this year alongside his compatriot Daryl Gurney. Aspinall and Rock have played each other five times in their careers, four times Rock won, but their last meeting between them earlier this year was won by Aspinall. An exciting duel announces itself.

James Wade vs. Jermaine Wattimena
The final quarterfinal is between James Wade and Jermaine Wattimena. Wade is experiencing his second youth this year and has already played finals at the UK Open and the World Matchplay, where he lost each time to Littler. The Players Championship Finals is one of the few majors still missing from 'The Machine''s list of honors, as he never made it past the semifinals (2009).
With Wattimena he will meet someone who has already impressed with some easy wins. The Machine Gun' was last year's losing finalist at the European Darts Championship and would love to reach another major final. Earlier this year he already won two Players Championships, so the form is certainly there. Wade and Wattimena have played each other eight times in their careers. Remarkably, the first five games were won by Wade, the last three however were won by Wattimena.
